How we work:
The therapists use an integrative approach to family
therapy that involves psychosynthesis theory, attachment theory, play
therapy, bodywork and creative arts media. All of the above theories
translate into a form of therapy that attempts to build meaningful bonds
of attachment by developing a family's ability to communicate with each
other.
Skills, tools & approaches:
The use of metaphor, symbol and play are natural to
most children and the therapists may use drama, painting, puppetry,
journal keeping, movement, music and imagery & meditation work to enhance
the therapeutic process. Part of the therapeutic process is to awaken
a person's creative energy. Thus, creativity & therapy overlap. What
is creative is often therapeutic, what is therapeutic is frequently
a creative process. The value of using creative art media is that:
It develops a person's ability for action,
reflection, spontaneity and insight
Research has shown that they can both give deeper meaning and
assist people in integrating issues/themes within therapy
Some people find 'talking therapy' a less natural form of expression
and find creative arts media offer a subtle and dynamic alternative
